At Volunteer Network OC, we believe that you are never too old or too young to make a difference in our community. We hope you enjoy this interview with Sereia Rodriguez. She is an angel among us.
My husband and I have been volunteering at Qoheleth Ministries for the last 5 years. During that time, we have met some amazing people. One such person is a little girl who we have seen consistently volunteering with Qoheleth Ministries every month with her mother, Monique Lopez and Tulip Lopez (also known as Auntie Mama). I had the opportunity to interview her to learn about her motivation.
CC: What is your name?
SR: Sereia Rodriguez.
CC: And how old are you?
SR: I’m 6 years old.
CC: How long have you been volunteering at Qoheleth Ministries?
SR: Since I was 4.
CC: What made you start volunteering here?
SR: My aunt made me come here to test it out, Auntie Mama.
CC: What did you think?
SR: It was actually nice, so I started to come here every month.
CC: What made you decide to come here every month?
SR: It’s fun and I’m helping people who don’t have money for food.
CC: What would you tell other children about volunteering?
SR: That they should try it out and see if they like it or not, then they could also do it.
CC: What is the best thing about volunteering?
SR: I’m helping people.
CC: Is there anything else you want to tell me about it?
SR: No
CC: Do you come with your mom and your auntie?
SR: Yeah and sometimes my dad.
CC: Do have brothers or sisters?
SR: No, I don’t have any.
CC: Do you volunteer at any other place?
SR: A lot more.
CC: What other places do you volunteer?
SR: My aunt’s work – Project Independence.
CC: Did you start volunteering there first and then here?
SR: Yes.
CC: Very cool. I am so happy to be able to spend some time with you and be able to see you every month. Your smile is so dazzling and gives everyone so much joy. Thank you for sharing your joy with the world.
SR: You’re welcome
CC: Is there anything you would like to say? (to mom and Auntie Mama)
AM: We attend the church here (Harbor Trinity Church) and that is how we found out about this. She does the Kids Club here and does the Sunday school.
CC: Is there anything you would like to say about Sereia?
Mom: I am just proud of her that she likes to come and enjoy serving so just want to continue that and hopefully other little kids follow.
CC: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me.
